Codroy, Newfoundland — flame-colored cone-shaped object — July 1947

Multiple witnesses at Cordroy, Newfoundland, including storekeeper John P. Legge and William Evans, reported observing a bright red-orange circular object approximately the size of a barrel head at roughly 6,000 feet altitude on the night of July 10-11, 1947. The object was visible for approximately 15 seconds and traveled from northwest to east at very high speed, leaving a yellowish conical afterglow trailing approximately 15 feet. A third witness, Albert Simms, also reported the object. A Newfoundland Constabulary officer at Grand Falls separately reported four round objects in formation flying east on the night of July 9, followed by another large round object with a phosphorus glow moving in a rocking motion. Multiple independent witness statements taken by military intelligence officer at Harmon Field, Newfoundland. Witnesses explicitly distinguished the object from shooting stars and aircraft. OCR quality is good for the sworn statements (legible typed carbons); poorer for surrounding material.
