Analysis — our summary

National Guard pilot Lt. Gorman reported a prolonged aerial engagement with a small, round, steadily glowing white light over Fargo, North Dakota. Gorman pursued the object in an F-51 fighter at up to 400 mph without being able to close on it. The object executed sharp turns, sudden altitude changes, and near-vertical climbs that would have caused blackout in a human pilot. Gorman stated he blacked out temporarily attempting to match the object's turns. Air Force Project Saucer investigators considered a weather balloon as a possible explanation, noting a lighted balloon had been released ten minutes before the encounter. This case is reproduced in a New Yorker article clipping filed in the FBI record.

As reported — verbatim from the document
"It was blinking on and off. As I approached, however, the light suddenly became steady and pulled into a sharp left bank... I dived after it and brought my manifold pressure up to sixty inches, but I couldn't catch up with the thing"; "When I attempted to turn with [the light], I blacked out temporarily, due to excessive speed"
Analyst notes — caveats & confidence

Account drawn from a New Yorker magazine article (September 6, 1952) clipped and filed in FBI records; the article references Air Force Project Saucer investigative files. Single pilot witness. Air Force suggested possible weather balloon but noted the object's behavior was inconsistent with a balloon. No radar data available from this account. OCR quality is good for this section.
