Flying saucer hovering over Neubiberg Air Base — Sweden-sourced extraterrestrial hypothesis
A November 4, 1948 TOP SECRET USAFE cable relays that a flying saucer was observed hovering over Neubiberg Air Base for approximately thirty minutes. The cable notes the recurring nature of such reports from many sources and locations, concluding they 'cannot be disregarded and must be explained on some basis which is perhaps slightly beyond the scope of our present intelligence thinking.' Officers visiting the Swedish Air Intelligence Service reported that qualified Swedish technical personnel had reached the conclusion that the phenomena 'are obviously the result of a high technical skill which cannot be credited to any presently known culture on earth,' and therefore assumed extraterrestrial origin. A Swedish technical expert reported an object crashed or landed in a lake near his home; a naval salvage team was sent and divers discovered a previously uncharted crater on the lake floor, tentatively attributed to a flying saucer.
“Some reliable and fully technically qualified people have reached the conclusion that 'these phenomena are obviously the result of a high technical skill which cannot be credited to any presently known culture on earth.' They are therefore assuming that these objects originate from some previously unknown or unidentified technology, possibly outside the earth.”
TOP SECRET cable. The Swedish lake crash/landing incident — with naval salvage and uncharted crater — is particularly noteworthy but described secondhand. No further information on salvage results is available in this document. Duration of 30 minutes stated for Neubiberg sighting. OCR is clean for the key passages. Document also contains a cover sheet (page 1) that is largely illegible/administrative.
