Diamond-shaped fast-moving object, silent — Sandia Base landing strip (Jan 6 1949)

Jan 6, 1949Sandia Base landing strip, Albuquerque, New Mexico (approx.)1,750 ft
Analysis — our summary

At approximately 17:30 on 6 January 1949, Pfc. Meredith J. Everitt was guarding a C-97 aircraft at Sandia Base when he observed a bright object traveling from the southeast toward the northwest. He described it as diamond-shaped, approximately two feet in apparent length, brighter at center than edges, and estimated its altitude at 1,500–2,000 feet. The object traveled approximately 500 feet horizontally before he lost sight of it. He noted it moved considerably faster than low-flying jets he had previously observed. No exhaust, smoke, or vapor was visible.

As reported — verbatim from the document
"The object was diamond shaped, approximately two feet long, and appeared to be much brighter in its center than at the edges. He estimated that the object was approximately 1500 to 2000 feet in the air and travelled approximately 500 feet, horizontal to the earth's surface, before he lost sight of it … this object travelled much faster than the jets that he has observed. There was no smoke or other vapor, or material visible … around or following the object."
Analyst notes — caveats & confidence

Single witness (Pfc. Everitt), no corroboration from Sgt. Woleslegce or Cpl. Wilson who were present nearby but did not observe. Observer did have flight training under GI Bill. Apparent size estimate of '2 feet long' likely refers to perceived size at unknown distance, not true physical size. Altitude estimate is rough. Confidence moderate due to single observer and lack of independent confirmation.
